Some coins of Agrigento, Greek city of Sicily, founded by colonists from Gela in 580 BC, showing the type of the eagle on the obverse and the crab on the reverse, common animal along the Sicilian coasts and symbol of the city.
Probably the animals indicate Agrigento's position, parto on the top of a mountain (the eagle) and part next to the sea (the crab). The legend, AkRAGANTOS, on the obverse, indicates the city.
