The obverse shows the figure of a bull standing on the left, with his head turned to the right; the reverse is the same type, incuse. This technique was adopted from the main cities of Magna Graecia between the second half of the 6th century BC and the first half of the 5th century BC.
This coin was made in the second half of 6th century BC by the Sibari's mint, one of the first cities in the southern Italy to have coin due to its great trade activity and silver mine. The bull figure may be linked to the main source of wealth of the city. The legend SU, with archaic greek letters, is the abbreviation of city's name.
