The kylix, of sleek shape and refined execution, is part of a flourishing decorative trend characteristic of Athenian workshops between 550 and 530 BC
The style is similar to the one of the "Piccoli Maestri", a group of craftsmen and painter which prefers miniaturistic decoration, with extremely refined details of animals and human figures. In this case there is a mermaid, a mythologic figure half woman and half bird. At the bottom there is an inscription in greek letters, without significance, and perhaps in order to reproduce augural inscription about wine and drinkink in symposium.
