Gaius Camonius Gratus was a ring artisan and perhaps sigils, defined “anularius”, a not well documented profession in latin literature. That is the only example where the generic word faber is linked with the most specific of anularius. The great value of this stela is in the nomen of the gens Camonia, which is is supported also by a Marzial's epigram in Bologna, who tells about a friend's death. Is it possibile that the friend who is speaking about can be part of the same family of the freedsman of the stela, because of the similar chronology.

Esce senza di te il mio sesto libro,
Camonio Rufo. Che tu lo legga, amico,
non posso sperare di più.
Una terra disumana, i Cappadoci,
tra sinistri presagi visitata,
ceneri ed ossa al padre tuo restituisce.
Scoppia in singhiozzi, orbata del tuo Rufo,
Bologna!
Romagna tutta rimbombi di petti picchiati;
