Theatre

The building, discovered in 1982 in Carbonesi street, was located on the border between the city center and the southern suburbs (periphery) and was served by several road links. Of its first phase construction, dating from the first two decades of the first century BC, is documented the cavea (the steps for the public) semicircular divided into two orders of bleachers with low brick seats.

More info

The theatre is particularly well documented in terms of its layout and construction phases. It was built during the Sullan period at the southern edge of the urban area, near what is now Via Carbonesi. Then it was enlarged and richly decorated during the reign of Nero, the emperor to whom the exceptional statue in military garb was dedicated. The statue was found in this area in the 16th century.

Datation: Ist century BC - 1st century AD
Inventory #: Piante del teatro
