The medal shows on the obverse the head of Napoleon and on the reverse the celebration of the Peace of Amiens: in the field, at the center, a female figure stands out in flight and puts her foot on the terrestrial hemisphere; in her right hand holds a caduceus adorned with laurel and a balance in the left. The legends of the reverse LE RETOUR D'ASTREE (the return of Astraea, the goddess of Justice) and PAIX GENERAL AMIENS AN DIX MDCCII, lead us to interpret the female figure in flight as the personification of Justice or Peace.
On 27 March 1802 was signed the Peace of Amiens between France, her allied (Batavian Republic and Spain) and England, for the recognition to the french of the Napoleon conquests. The medal shows both in obverse and in reverse the signature of the engraver Jean Pierre Droz (1746-1823).
