This remarkable sculptural group is also known by other replicas, all from the Roman period, portraying a young satyr while supports Dionysus child on his shoulders.
The light-hearted composition is of a young satyr holding on his shoulders Dionysus child, who is seen pouring wine from a recipient (which must have been in his right hand) onto his playmate. The subject was very popular in the Roman world and was even frequently presented in sarcophagi with Dionysian imagery, but also in gem production.
