Stela of Caius Oenius

This arched stele, of great proportions, has at the top a small niche, surrounded by three rosettes with four petals, which contains a portrait while the lower part, just sketched, is destined to infixion.

Th eportrait, in the corner, is an example of portrait production in the 1st century BC, which is the same period of the inscription Caius Oenius, name of the freedmanLucius of Sabatina tribus.

Provenance: Bologna, Corticella (north area of the city)
Datation: Second half of 1st century BC
Material: grey trachyte
