On the obverse the bust of Niceforo I, on his ehead a crown with a cross, wearing a chlamys, the purple cloak. On the other side there is his son Staurazio who, differently from the father, shaved, is holding a globe with a cross and wears the chlamys..
Both of them are holding on their left hand an akakia, a cointer of powder which alludes to the mortal nature of the emperor. The solid comes from Costantinople around early 1800 and was found with other specimens in 1857 near the Reno river. There were quite a hundred of coins, 21 of them had come to the Archaeological Museum of Bologna, where are now conserved.
