Lucius Septimius Severus was Roman Emperor from 193 to 211 AD. On the obverse of this aureus appears his bust draped and armored, with laurel crown; while on the reverse, are depicted the sons Caracalla, to the left, and Geta, to the right, accompanied by the legend FELICITAS SAECVLI.
The bust of his wife Giulia Domna is in the centre. The art during Settimius Severus reign is different from the previous one because of the presence of his wife, next to him or his son. The empress appears as part of the imperial power. Inscription and iconography of the coin suggest the family and dynasty celebration and a promotional intent.
