To expand their trade in southern Italy, where for several centuries circulating the greek type silver coin, in the second half of the 4th century BC Rome issued a silver coin called 'Roman-campana', because probably issued by mints of Campania.
Greek inspiration coins, both for the technique and the style, with the greek legend ROMAION ('of Romans'). It was followed by a second production with the legends ROMANO and ROMA. This case shows Mars' head, with a long beard, wearing a Corinthian helmet and a horse protome, with a a spike and the legend ROMANO, which identify Rome's mint.
