High relief depicting a Boread

This lovely sculpture almost certainly comes from the decoration of a tomb building. The figure shown represents one of the sons of Boreas, the personification of the North wind. The Boreads accompanied Jason in the Argonaut saga and to obtain information from the diviner Phineas about the future of the mythical ship, they followed and chased away the Harpies who tormented him. This is the episode recalled by the act of the figure depicted unsheathing a sword.
