Ivory foldable stool

The precious foldable stool is made with four elephant crossed tusks, joined two by two from bronze pins and two horizontal elements, always in ivory, which had to hold the seat, now lost and originally made up of fabric or leather.

For the Etruscans and Romans the stool was a symbol of high rank in municipal politics: the presence of the object in this opulent burial indicates that the deceased must have had a magisterial position in the Bolognese community.
