The cartouche with the name of the pharaoh Tutankhamen is carved on the signet of this ring.
Egyptian artisans have modeled separately the rod with a circular section and the oval bezel, before put them together to create the ring.
Because of the fragility of this material (faïence), scholars think that these items were used as amulets or jewels worn only on special occasions. Rings of this type with regal names, often made of faïence as well as gold and silver, circulated in Egypt starting with the reign of Amenhotep III (1390–1353 BC) and they remained in vogue throughout the rest of the 18th dynasty (1393–1292 BC). With minor variations, they survived until the Late Period.
