Necklace with the cartouche of the god Aten

What stands out among the various elements composing this refined necklace – beads alternated with tubes, heads of the goddess Hathor and plant elements – is a small cartouche in gold foil bearing one of the names of the god Aten inscribed with the repoussé technique.

This deity, who represented the sun disc for the Egyptians, gained enormous importance during the reign of the pharaoh Amenhotep IV/Akhenaton (1353–1336 BC), replacing the cult of the extremely important Theban god Amon for a short period.
