Woman-shaped mirror handle

The graceful body of this girl served as the handle for a metal mirror, a sought-after toiletry item among well-to-do Egyptian women. The bronze or silver disc, which has been lost, was mounted on the head of this figure using a pin whose hole is visible in the middle of the feather headdress over the wig.

The long curls, held in place by a band tied behind the head, and the large ivory earrings attract the observer’s attention, but the girl’s gesture of tucking her hair behind her right shoulder as she clutches a little bird, moves her left leg forward and opens her legs slightly beckons one to look at her entire body, marked by delicate buxomness and vital tension.
