This “marriage” scarab was issued by king Amenhotep III (1390–1353 BC) in an unspecified year of his reign to officialize Teye’s role as Great Royal Wife.
The hieroglyphic text incised at the base of the animal starts with the regal title of Amenhotep III, continues with the name of Teye and her parents, Yuya and Tuya, and ends by indicating the extent of the territories ruled by the pharaoh. The back of the scarab, which represents Khepri, the god of the rising sun, is rendered with great realism, above all in the parts of the head, the clypeus and the legs, showing the cartouches with the names of the royal couple.
