Corinthian Kotyle

The interior of the vase is completely painted in red-brown, while outside there is a figured frieze, between a band of vertical lines and a series of rays.

The frieze presents a series of animals anf imaginary figures, a typical decoraion in Corinthian pottery: panthers, sphinxes and mermaids depicted in black, with red details. The sphinx and the mermaid, imaginary creatures in greek mythology, had a widespread success in Corinthian decoration.
