Golden silver plaquettes

The eight gold-plated silver plaquettes are embossed with a small female head and a long and thick head of hair framing the face. Two of these end in a hook, whereas the other ones were probably sewn directly on the garment.

More info

These plaquettes are some of the rarest examples of goldsmithing attested in the sepulchres situated in Bologna that date back to the Orientalising phase. These come from extraordinarily lavish female’s grave goods, which also include two fibulae and a cloak pin, both made of silver, as well as a Corinthian alabastron. These serve as an example of the cultural influences Etruria exercised on the Padanian Etruria, especially since the second half of the 7th century B.C.

Datation: last quarter of the 7th century B.C.
Material: gold-plated silver
Dimensions: l. 1.4 cm; w. 1.2 cm.
