Introduction

After the end of the 5th century BC, the territory of Etruscan Bologna, Felsina, saw the influx of Gallic Boi tribes, originating from north of the Alps. From the end of the 5th and start of the 4th century BC, these tribes began to settle in northern and central Italy, arriving in Rome in 389-388 BC.
For approximately 200 years, the Boi settled around Bologna, mingling with and living alongside the Etruscan population. Their presence is shown almost exclusively through items left as grave goods in tombs. The most significant of these are on display in room XI, offering a reconstruction of Bologna’s history before the Roman conquest, which took place in 187 BC.
