This beaker, shaped like a double truncated cone with a light cable decoration on the upper part, is one of the most characteristic ceramic objects from the area of the Golasecca culture, corresponding to modern-day eastern Piedmont, western Lombardy and Canton Ticino, populated by Celtic speakers during the first millenium.
The child's tomb, of which this cup represents the sole funerary equipment, is that of a Golaseccan individual, a foreigner who, despite his youth, seems to have part of the civic community of the Etruscan city, as demonstrated by the fact that he was placed in the common burial ground, the etruscan Certosa necropolis.
Provenance: Bologna, Certosa Necropolis, tomb 57
Datation: 475 - 410 B.C.
Material: Clay
