PLEASE NOTE: from 22 December 2023 to 1 January 2024 inclusive, the Museum Library will be closed to the public for the Christmas holidays and will reopen regularly on 2 January.
The periodicals section is also well-supplied, comprising 631 titles, 128 of which currently being published; among these are numerous periodicals in Slav languages, which are usually difficult to source.
In 2002, the Museum Library joined the Bologna section of the Sistema Bibliotecario Nazionale (SBN - ‘National Library System’), and online cataloguing has started of the holdings. The volumes held by the library can thus be sourced either through the traditional paper catalogue, ordered by author and title, or through the digital catalogue of the Bolognese section of the SBN via this site: sol.cib.unibo.it:8080/SebinaOpac/
Since November 2011, the library has expanded thanks to a bequest from Prof. Mario Traina, a well-known Bolognese journalist and numismatist, who died in 2010, leaving his books to the library. His collection, housed in a wing of the pre-existing library, comprises approximately 6,000 volumes, with monographs, periodicals and many auction catalogues from Italy and abroad dedicated to coin and medal production from Antiquity to the present day. Thanks to this collection, numismatic students, scholars and amateurs can consult a fundamental series of publications, some of which hitherto impossible to find in Bologna, on a single site.
