Archaeological Museum of Bologna

These storerooms fulfil one of the museum’s fundamental tasks, that of conserving its entire holdings.

Contrary to what is usually believed, the museum’s storerooms do not conserve precious treasures: what they do house is all those objects which for reasons of conservation and space cannot be kept in the exhibition rooms.

The museum has special spaces specially equipped for preserving archaeological material.

The works not on display are catalogued, photographed and described in the museum’s archives; these are items that are as important for the purposes of a better understanding of the past as those on public display, albeit less representative.
