Places / Exhibition rooms / Room VIII - Etrusco-Italic collection

This room contains materials concerning the Etruscans and other populations in Italy before the Roman domination.

The intention of Edoardo Brizio, the first director and cataloguer of the 19th-century museum, was that these materials should constitute a useful tool for comparing with the objects found in local excavation sites.

For the most part, the items consist of finds originally in the University and Palagi collections, but they include materials exchanged with other museums in a late-19th and early 20th-century custom making it possible to offer the public a comparison between the local culture and that of other centres.

Acquisitions and donations from private individuals have further enlarged the holdings (Brunelli, Bignami and Banzi collections).
